The dwelling is conceived in the spirit of a barn that fits in the ensemble of its surroundings - the farm. The carcass of the barn makes the enclosure of the dwelling: semi inside and semi outside, as a protected courtyard or patio. By using the peel as a property line, the dwelling becomes “freestanding”—a rare luxury in parcelized Belgium. The peel makes a visual threshold and so optimizes the privacy of the dwelling towards the farm and vice versa.
